When People (in the NE) Snicker When I Say Thank You

When I am in the Northeast, I find people sometimes snicker when I say Thank You.

I say "thank you" 'cause I was raised right
You snicker like it's comedy night
There ain't nothin' funny
'Bout sayin thanks, honey
There's this thing, it's called being polite
